Back to basics...

Fault finding is interesting;  and superficially it seems such a logical approach to problem solving that it is hard to argue against it.

But the 'diabetes' model of solving problems -identify the missing hormone and replace it- only works for a diabetes kind of problem.

Solutions such as voluntary renunciation and voluntary simplicity as a way to reduce a condition known as 'greed' is a diabetes kind of answer.

Most problems involve many factors, and many *too much of* and *not enough ofs*. Plus a diabeties model of problem solving requires the investigator to understand what normal is, and to do that there must be a lot of normal around to measure.

Works fine with diabetes.

It wont work with todlers screaming because they want to eat all the sweets off the shelf at the check-out. Solving that particular problem is not simply a case of giving the child the sweets- obviously the cause of the tears is not having enough sweets, therfore the cure is...give the sweets.

Or the cure is say no....

But unfortunately yes or no is as good as it gets for when common sense is clouded by ideological stupidity.

The solution is complicated, it must include juggling meanings and money and an idea of what kinds of information a toddler can understand...the solution may not be the sweets...it may be the sweets, but anyway, my point.

This quote is from a much longer essay that fell through my in-box today
The path before us requires voluntary renunciation and voluntary simplicity to reduce our burden on the earth. Therefore, the old paradigm that sees accumulation of wealth and immediate material satisfaction as the goal needs to be rejected collectively. We are going to step into a new realization of our purpose -- of the meaning of human life, in itself. We are going to remember, and relearn, what every ancient civilization and traditional culture tells us: that our lives have a spiritual meaning, above all. Existence in this world is an initiatory process to prepare us for the transition to other conditions of being, other worlds or bardo realms beyond this one.
Now I'm always going to be annoyed by this kind of language- the language of 'we' and 'must'. I'm always going to be bothered by the Gnostic deceit that there is somewhere better to get to, a transcendent (spiritual) reality to strive for.

Religion is for the religious.

One thing I know from being a religious person is that the religious should never mistake their version of reality as the only one and expect their solution to life, the universe and everything to be a solution for everyone else's problems!

It is so much easier to preach than to actually do your own practice. And that whole thing of wanting other people to agree in your reality is plain sick.

and and you can't have 'Bardo realms' there are no such locations. A bardo is the space between...What, like the border world of Xen?

Actually bardo worlds are places where mind manifests as pure delusion. So if you are off your trolley, drunk or completely befuddled you could call it a 'bardo'.

Talking of Xen: HL!
